ABC Special Needs Program
The ABC Special Needs (ABC SN) Program provides technical assistance, consultation, and training with child care providers, parents, service providers, faith communities, and educators to facilitate the inclusion of children with developmental delays and different needs/abilities.
As a partner with the ABC Program, the ABC Special Needs Program provides pre-service and in-service in:
- educating child care providers
- preparing staff to care for children with different needs/abilities
- familiarizing staff with the latest strategies to meet the needs of children with different needs/abilities
- preparing staff to collaboratively work with parents, therapists, and health care professionals
- identifying children with different needs/abilities
- including children with and without different needs in the same setting
- developing inclusive playground areas
- adapting materials and assistive devices
On-site visits are provided statewide by specialists in the early education/special education field. There is NO COST to the program for consultation related to a child with different needs; technical assistance related to materials, equipment, inclusion techniques, etc.; or training specifically related to a child for successful inclusion.
The ABC Special Needs Program currently has researched, developed, and implemented topics that include disability, disability-related, and infant/toddler areas. All trainings and instructional classes have been approved by the SC Department of Social Services, Center for Child Care Career Development, and the BabyNet Infant/Toddler Credential.
